Thursday, November 14

this time it was a little annoying - i missed 830 french for at least the third thursday in a row, i think because hannah reset the alarm incorrectly. french class is good these days, too, despite ridiculous volume of grammar - future, conditional, subjunctive, constructions and more in about two weeks. we (presumably) started discussing huis clos today. to make up for it, i went to bach class, which was actually interesting, perhaps due to the novelties of recorder technique and a 750-pound delivery.

this week i have thought several times of posting and then the better of it. the week contained a paper: written, turned in, handed back, in two days. contrary to expectations (at least, expectations until tuesday morning or late monday night, when i started to realize that i did have something to write about after all), writing went very quickly and smoothly. i had re-read nadja the night before, which was fun and helpful. of course we didn't talk about it very much, and we talked a lot about the unrelated other readings which i hadn't read all of, so that made seminar just okay. but it was interesting anyway. i was happy with the paper, though it was too long and there was more i wanted to talk about.

my foot is better, and also worse, than it was. dancing two nights didn't help i think, and perhaps yoga didn't either, but i can at least do things. after dancing on it tuesday, i wanted to go to paces but instead ended up playing improv piano for at least an hour with mr. bhardwaj. i started on lower registers, including "sunny side" and tried to do a montuno thing, then we switched, melodies creeping out, best of which was "rainbow." we spent about twenty minutes riffing off of "so fresh so clean," which as it turned out quodlibets perfectly into "the way you look tonight."

what else? playsite is bugging me out - i haven't been able to complete a game after many many attempts this week. i don't know what's wrong. hannah and i watched waking life last night. good movie, and i'm thinking about getting the dvd myself (even though rob has it) because i want to watch all the commentaries.

there's been a steady stream of package arrivals, at least one per day, and i never know what to expect - cutting-edge texan punk, dirty south rap, piano pop-jazz, venerable afro-funk, british second-wave ska, icelandic electro-weirdness, brazilian singer-songwriter, architecturally-inspired brooklyn laptronica. and my perhaps-favorite movie on dvd. life is sweet. i feel good. i feel better than james brown.

judy?
she don't work here no more

i think she might be working over at the other store

i haven't seen her for a whole month

are you a friend of hers or what?
