Wednesday, October 1

and speaking of r.e.m., haha, i just saw them! does that ever happen to you, where you find yourself in the seventh row back from the stage in the very center of the center section in a huge basketball stadium, at a concert that you hadn't even considered attending until that morning? yeah, it's pretty cool.

they played alll of their big hits (except, i guess, "stand.") nothing from reckoning, pageant, green, or monster, which is a shame because those are among my twelve favorite r.e.m. albums. well, those are the two early ones i know best. but - "at my most beautiful" was awlsum, and "driver 8" and "sitting still" and i really liked some of the new songs and the ones from reveal.

m. stipe's dancing reminded me of d. byrne's a lot in his movement, but not in its effect (because of his expressions, i think - not as straightfaced or knowing.) he was obviously having a blast, sometimes got a little soppy, though never quite as annoyingly earnest as moby. the other band members didn't really look at the audience or even each other. michael took off sunglasses, leather jacket, shirt, and then another shirt at the end (should have stripped for "nightswimming" tho, rather than "iteotwawki.aiff")

right?
right.
