just this and then i will seriously buckle (down.) so, the tape deck i bought for $9 turns out to be a receiver/amp as well as a tape deck. which means it solves not just my lack of cassette capabilities, but also the second-set-of-speakers connection issue, and presumably the occasional staticky-cruddiness and channel-imbalance problems that plague my other receiver. plus it's lighter and smaller than the other one (though not quite as nice-looking.) the only problem is that the motor's a bit dodgy so it rewinds and fastforwards slowly and with much effort. so maybe i'll get a walkman to use for heavy-duty rewinding purposes. also there's no record level control or counter, so this will be mixtaping with a minimum of subtletly (unless i decide to sic peak on it and dig that digital vs. analog crunch.) maybe we can even use the other receiver in the kitchen. anyway… good mail day! (also got slow book from hawaii, and a wedding invitation.)
