The cover art is so classic. The music is less rocky (more vibes and mellotron, somewhat fewer angular guitars) than the other album of theirs I have, A Series of Sneaks (also great cover art.) I think the lyrics may be better (they're included this time.) Anyway, from the first few listens I can tell this is a great rock album. Vaguely reminiscent of the Zombies, early XTC, and maybe the Police in their cleanliness, grit, and pop sense (paradoxical, no?, but all of these bands have an undeniably gritty sound despite tight, clean production) Spoon are both in step with and refreshingly removed from the sound of their indie rok cohorts. Lemme go listen to it some more and then maybe I'll write more.
