I didn't drum for African I yesterday because all of the congas had been taken and I wasn't sure what style of drum to take out of the closet instead. But that was okay, because I ended up going to Sharples and having a nice chat with Alana, about screw and all that entails. Also, there was Thai bar, which I'd never seen before (peanut chicken pretty good). It's funny, I haven't noticed too many people talking about screw, but I overheard it a bit at Sharples, and it is coming up pretty soon. In fact, we voted on a theme at the SAC meeting after African: "Chains," which doesn't really mean anything, or rather it can mean whatever you want it to mean. For whatever reason, it was decided that we had to have a theme, and nobody really had a particularly exciting idea. Screw pretty much provides its own theme anyway. I have somewhere between one and four people to screw, depending on whether my roommates would ever consent to committing one way or the other. I have a few thoughts, but nothing at all concrete yet.
I have to read all of the Culture Concept stuff before Friday this week, or actually earlier, in order to talk about it with Roxanne, send out an e-mail Friday, and facilitate discussion next Monday. That will be nice for my weekend (since I've basically been putting far more effort into this class i'm
auditing than any other) but it means I'll be busy doing that for the next few days. It's good so far, most of an ethnography of the Nilotic, cow-obsessed Nuer: "Their social idiom is a bovine idiom.…I used sometimes to despair that I never discussed anything with the young men but livestock and girls, and even the subject of girls led inevitably to that of cattle." Computer is difficult and useful.
