aijung, linjung, martha and i were some of the first to arrive, after a semi-productive session at volunteers of america - i tried on well over a dozen pairs of pants without finding any that fit me, but i did get a belt and a kinda neat jacket (my folks disagree.) i put it on in place of my sweater, which i wore as a scarf. skating is inordinate fun, even just going in circles. and the hot chocolate was just right. this was also a chance for me to say hello to assorted friendsofparents and parentsoffriends (the three questions on everyone's mind: how are you? how's school? how long are you home for?) and of course there was one hotshot sk8er girl (jr. high?) who knew all the moves and left pretty curlicues in the center of the ice.
the rink is outdoors, and it was 20 or so out, so a lot of folks skipped that and just came for the potluck afterwards. the regular fixture there is our adorably tacky little plastic model of a snow-dappled skating pond, with four little skaters that circle around on their magnetized tracks. the game i play is to figure out how to position the little freestanding nonmagnetic snowman so that each of the skaters pushes him along in turn to the next. it's hard - i don't think i've ever done it. the little sleeping dog seems to be missing this year.
jonah's coming tomorrow. dunno why i'm up now, reading fast food nation; trying to teach myself to play "everything reminds me of her" (easier with the cd than with the tabs.) <yaaawhn>
so leave me alone
you oughtta be glad
that i'm getting good marks
