Saturday, September 27

yesterday, for a change, the weather was kind of unpleasant. i guess i can't like it all the time. i did like the light in the early morning, when i got up, but didn't get up, to go to wallingford to observe ms. harper's 9th grade academically-assisted english class talking about gender. that was a lot more exciting than the class i went to afterwards (lesson: the dome of the rock actually is a work of art), although it was cool to see the notorious, recently-discovered box o' documents from the 1881 reconstruction of parrish hall.

this from the 'items of current interest' section of an 1881 edition of the buck county register:
why do girls kiss other girls while boys do not kiss each other? because boys have better things to kiss, and girls do not.

the rest of the day was prepping a somewhat impromptu dinner party that swelled to ten people by the end of it. we gave them mulligatawny, spanikopita, salad, asparagus, and carrot-pineapple cake. i had to dash out after that to go to another party, a cocktail birthday party for someone i'd never met before ("i'm an aggressive friend" she says, and i'm all for that), which turned out to be possibly the best, certainly the classiest, dorm party i've ever been to. just like the last (only other?) time i was in roberts, i climbed in through the window. when i arrived almost everyone (including the room itself) was wearing red and black, so i felt a little off-color in my olive & purple & vest, but it was okay. i met many people, danced with one of them, had an angel kiss and a glass of wine. hm hm, then the wrens.

i've got to go play with bread and puppets now. just wanted to let you know what's going on.

so this is the new year
and i don't feel any different
