i don't know any songs about being 22. do you? so it looks like i won't be doing anything flashy to enjoy my birthday this year, although i might have an observation on saturday. let me know if you'd like to be included.

but i do have a birthday cake. i made a cheesecake today. when it came out of the oven the top was cracked in the form of a big "K." and just now i covered the top with strawberry slices - while i was doing that i talked with maria, who's turned out to be my favorite member of the household (and the only one i've had an at all significant conversation with in the last almost week, literally.) but she's going home to bulgaria on sunday.

i guess i will just bring it into the office tomorrow, or else i'll have to eat it by myself.

i got myself at least two little birthday presents today - used copy of possession and some live blur cds including a copy of the show i saw last summer, although strangely the tracklist doesn't agree with the setlist i posted at the time.

right, i'll be working tomorrow (today), on my birthday. but that's okay. i took off today, and used it nicely. i went to deep south philly with matt to go to a drum store and we had some very good pizza at celebre's. then i went to the church to see yo la tengo and their craziness which they "didn't actually believe would have an impact on the election, but they hoped it would." i really liked calvin johnson, his dances and the songs he sang, and also what he said and how he said it. i was tempted to buy some of his homemade mixtapes of obscure soul and funk 45s. of course because it was r5 the show started ridiculously late (9:30 for 7:30 doors) and it didn't end until well after midnight. but ylt are friendly even when they're making extended oceans of squalling feedback. i felt bad for the two sun ra arkestra guys that just kind of stood there most of the time with their bongos and trombone, waiting for the racket to end, and wearing shiny capes and hats when everyone else just had dirty boring shirts and pants.

it's time to go to bed now.

i'm a professional cynic
but my heart's not in it
